Conflicts between state and federal laws mean that Georgia lawyers run the risk of violating professional ethics rules when advising individuals and companies involved in cannabis. The Georgia State Bar tried last year to change Georgia’s ethics rules so attorneys could represent clients involved in state-legal cannabis-related activities, but Georgia’s Supreme Court denied the request because such activity is still federally illegal.
